Training Weeks of Summer

Volunteers

By Jean Gabriel-Executive Administrator COHH. Our regular school year ended June 20,2013.Our teachers got 10-day vacation before returning to classroom. This time, it was the teachers turn to prepare for the upcoming summer school program and the beginning of the new school year in the fall. Peggy Leriche, M.Ed a Teach for America alumni joined us this summer to provide extensive developmental  training for COHH teachers. During her stay the teachers were trained in classroom management, creating an interactive student centered classroom, Lesson planning which incorporated the new templet she created. Teachers also worked on  creating and using assessments a well as strategies to implement curriculum and supporting supplements. At the end of their time together, teachers walked away with tangible material and concepts catered to their specific needs which they can immediately implement in their classrooms as well as the first weeks of their lesson plans and assessments completed.

Will Frager, having just finishing his Masters Degree in Logic at the University At Amsterdam in The Netherlands, arrived in Hinche at our site a few days before Peggy departed. Will  joins us for two months and will be focussed on assuring teacher preparedness, curricula enhancement and child selection for the new first grade in the fall. Will will also work with the Executive Administrator-Hinche in identifying orphaned children ages 6-7 for possible intake to our orphanage. Our goals for the summer are to enhance teaching training, enhanced the school curricula to enhance the educational experience for each child, and to identify and take in our first orphans of the orphanage. By the end of summer, we will have over 45 children at the Center of Hope (Haiti).
