Car Washing In The Rain

Haiti School

Yes, in a virtual takeoff on Singing In The Rain, the Alto family and a host of friends demonstrated extraordinary civic determination when they decided to hold a car wash in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts for the benefit of COHH the Saturday after Easter. Mia Alto and her mom, Linda, visited COHH in Haiti two years ago and got a chance to get to know the students at COHH and become friends. They have been sharing their experience with friends and others in their community. Last year, they held a car wash that included a car from their local police department. It was such a success that Mia decided to make it even bigger this year. Little did they know that the weather would not be kind on April 27, 2019. It turned out to be a cold and rainy day - perfect for a car wash you say? Yup!

Sporting their COHH T-shirts and posting up downtown with signage that showed they meant business, over 20 volunteers commandeered willing participants to get their cars washed in the rain for a great cause. Among the participant car owners were several "repeat" customers that motivated the volunteers by donating a more than the cost of the car wash to COHH. The volunteers had a lot of fun in adverse weather. It was another tremendous fundraising success. The volunteers are already planning for another car wash.

COHH is very grateful for the extraordinary efforts of the volunteers and the car wash participants. At the risk of missing someone, for which we apologize in advance, we extend our thanks to Maggie Carr, Gabriella Bachiochi, Katherine Flynn, Payton Leveckis, Sophia Jreij, Anna Noon Julia PhillipsnAlly Noriega, Eva Pimlott, Abby Daley, Emily Carlson, Maddy Cameron, Ali Carey, Izzy Ison, Izzie Russo, Danielle, Panciocco, Grace Borden, Krystal Wu, Nick Alto, Mia Alto, Robert Alto and Linda Alto.

COHH extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone for all the hard work that went into making the day such a success. Washing cars on any day is a challenge, but on a cold and rainy day is exceptional. It is also great to see how many people responded to the girls’ efforts. The proactive leadership of the girls can serve as a lesson for many adults that find it hard to be motivated.
