Summer School 2012

Enhanced Education Environment Orphanage

Will Frager returned to COHH this summer. He left last August to begin his Master's degree program at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He immediately began his evaluation of the first year first grade and assisted with the administration of the final exams. At the same time, he began the preparation for our summer school. We were very fortunate to find a highly talented teacher, Darling Joseph, to lead the summer school class.

Wisny Geffrard, our Director of Field Operations, joined with Will Frager in identifying 12 children for the summer school program. Three of the children were part of the previous first grade class. It was felt that these three were a bit younger than previously believed and that they would benefit from additional classwork and instruction.

We are also using the summer program to observe Mrs. Joseph and provide instruction for how we would like the classroom activity to be conducted. We are very pleased with her performance and appreciate her willingness to receive new instruction and guidance for her conduct of the class.

We are not surprised, but very pleased to see the esgerness among the children to continue their

education in summer school. The classroom is very warm with temperatures reaching upwards of 95 degrees every day without air conditioning. The children neveertheless come to class full of energy and ready to learn. These youngsters will become part of our new first grade class in the fall.
